Ubud was once an independent village in Bali’s central highlands that spotlighted the arts and culture of Bali. As the years have gone by Ubud has come to be more of a general name for the whole area taking in many villages. For example, Penestanan (the location of Villa Tusk), Tjampuhan, Sayan, Kedewatan, Tegallalang, Bedulu to name a but a few are all independent villages that now share Ubud as their main address.
I first visited Ubud in 1983 and stayed at The Hotel Tjampuhan just outside the centre of Ubud. By the way, Tjampuhan is now normally called Campuhan as the C in the Bahasa Indonesia languageis pronounced as CH or TJ.
